Structural Element Discussion
Description
In class discussion and in the book, we’ve covered many examples of questionable ethics in companies. We know that some unethical behavior is due to the environment in which people are working. These employees are generally good people but are put in a tough situation, often with conflicting incentives, and sometimes make a wrong choice. Rarely is an employee totally unethical, ignoring any legal, social, and organizational boundaries in pursuit of something they want. In 2-3 paragraphs, describe one structural element (incentives, reporting oversight, transparency, authority, etc.) that could be included in an organization to decrease the risk of an ethical problem. Use your answer to describe in detail how this might work, why it is an improvement, any potential pitfalls, and how it could be implemented. This should be broad enough to include in any number of organizations and should be something that is not already widely done. You might need to think for a while and research current structures before answering. I look forward to reading your answers.
