What to do:
- Read the chapters in their entirety, take notes or annotate if that helps you
- Read the questions, make sure you understand them and the concepts indicated before attempting a response.
- You MUST cite from the text in your responses. Failure to do so will result in a 5 point deduction per question/response.
- Find real world example(s) (e.g. web search) to use in your response, this shows me you can understand the concept enough to apply Please quote/cite properly.
- You should be writing at least half a page per response. No penalty for writing more
- 12 point font, double spaced
- Grading will be based on your responses and whether they reflect that you did the reading, whether you understood it properly and showed understanding through application of examples.
What not to do:
- Do not plagiarize, either from the text or from online sources. No copying and pasting please.
- Depending on how much plagiarism there is, your score will be downgraded to at least half and in some cases you might get a zero. If it is excessive and happens more than once, I may report you to the College for academic dishonesty.
Let’s do things a little differently this week. Since some of you are not answering all the questions I’m posing, please copy and paste the questions into your doc and answer them in separate paragraphs per the following:
Chapter 12 questions – I suggest focusing on sections 12.2 and 12.5 (still need you to cite to the text properly, need page or section numbers as well as provide examples):
1. (12.2) Why is the Electoral College considered by some to be not very democratic (especially compared to a national popular vote)? Do you think we need to move away from the Electoral College in selecting the US President? Why or Why not? If yes, what do you propose we replace it with? (and yes, this could work as an issue for your final project).
2. Consider the link below and also section 12.5. Do you think the power to pardon is problematic – does it give a president too much power or that past presidents have abused the power of pardon? If so, how? Do you think Trump (see article) has abused his power of pardon or do you think he is acting similarly to past presidents? Link here
