Aulette claims that most of our understanding about race is based on the western context, and more specifically the U.S., and that understanding does not map well onto the rest of the world. Why is this so, and what kinds of differences are there in the concept of race in other parts of the world? Can you speculate on what difference all that means to us as we try to deal with the legacy of race and racism?
That is a big question: but the point is to summarize the differences briefly, with perhaps an example or two, and then a couple of sentences on what difference it makes.
